TEMPE, AZ October 15, 2012 – Tiyatien Health (TH) was given a generous grant from the Ramsey Social Justice Foundation through a partnership established at the 2012 Clinton Global Initiative in New York City, held September 23rd‐25th.
Headquartered in Zwedru, Liberia, Tiyatien Health provides much‐needed medical and social services to remote villages that are underserved in Liberia, where more than 60% of the nation’s rural population lacks access to essential health care. Community members and former patients are trained to serve as frontline health workers within their own communities, delivering comprehensive home‐based care to locations previously deemed unreachable.
Dr. Rajesh Panjabi, co-founder and Executive Director of TH mentioned, “Our story would not be possible without you …and the dedication, skill, and contributions you bring to this effort. We look forward to working with you to bring light out of darkness.”
Tiyatien Health programs have not only provided quality health care, but also social and economic support. TH’s frontline health worker program has responded to a major refugee crisis, conducted groundbreaking scientific studies that have shaped national Liberian health policy and has been used to train the next generation of global health leaders through curricula of prominent institutions, including Harvard Medical School.
Peter Luckow, the Chief Operating Officer for TH said, “Please accept my deepest appreciation for the grant from your organization. Together, through innovation and perseverance, we’ll save lives in even the most remote villages of southeast Liberia.”
As members of the Clinton Global Initiative, the Ramsey Social Justice Foundation is among the more than 150 newly committed partners providing over $2 billion in aid, which will impact nearly 22 million lives.
According to Tiyatien Health’s 2011 data, nearly 96% of all funds go directly to the work that they perform, leaving less than 4% for operating, fundraising, and administrative costs. The post‐war environment in Liberia has left a tremendous need for the types of social and medical services that Tiyatien Health provides.
